SAN ANTONIO – An elderly woman was in critical condition after being attacked with a knife in a bathroom at the Rivercenter mall in downtown San Antonio.
Local police reported that the attack occurred shortly before 11 am after an altercation between the victim, in her 70s, and a woman in her 30s.
According to police, the suspect pulled out a knife and began stabbing the elderly woman.
Then, a niece of the victim entered the bathroom and, seeing what was happening, took out her own knife to attack the suspect in defense of the elderly woman, police added.
The suspect would have tried to escape, but collapsed while running in the mall and was detained by the authorities.
Both the elderly woman and the suspect were taken to a nearby hospital. The victim was reported to be in critical condition, but the alleged attacker’s health status was unknown.
Police said the elderly woman is a tourist and the suspect is a San Antonio resident.
The facts remain under investigation.
