A video of a racist attack on a man in Berlin has been shared many times on Twitter. The state security department of the State Criminal Police Office is now investigating the incident.
A racist attack broke out in Berlin-Lichtenberg on Friday. The incident was documented by the victim on video – and spread thousands of times on Twitter during the day. There the person concerned posted the video and wrote “I experienced that today in Lichtenberg, Berlin police would be able to file a complaint here or would it not help?”
According to previous knowledge, the 32-year-old was out and about with his one-year-old daughter in Paul-Junius-Straße in Fennpfuhl around 2.40 p.m. At the local adult education center he was severely racist insulted by a stranger.
Racist attack in Berlin: man files a complaint
In dem Twitter-Video the racist insults are documented: “Get out of here, you Kanake, you dirty monkey”, the woman calls out to the man and his child among other things – “piss off here, you cripple”. She also spits several times in the direction of the end of the film.
The majority of Twitter users then offered the man support and advised to report them. He submitted this in the evening, as documented by another tweet from the man.
The police also reported on the incident on Twitter that evening. The investigation into the incident and the identification of the woman was carried out by the state police at the State Criminal Police Office, it is said.
Victim would accept punishment
As the victim reports to the “Tagesspiegel”, he has often experienced such “racist anger attacks”. “Often I am not believed, or I am told that it is not that bad. Also from the police. This time I thought I would record it on my cell phone,” the man describes.
It goes on to say that he is actually not allowed to film the woman. Therefore, he also accepts a penalty. It is important that people see that such incidents happen.
As the newspaper further reports, the 32-year-old was born in Nigeria and has lived in Germany for seven years. So he works as a credit advisor. He is used to such racist insults, he says. But: “Not my son yet”.
