A Texas woman is recovering after being shot twice in the wake of an alleged incident of highway violence, according to Harris County authorities.
The 21-year-old victim was found by officers called to the scene Thursday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told The Independent on Friday. His injuries were not life-threatening, the statement added.
“Before the woman was transported to the hospital, she said she was involved in an accident and that led to the shooting,” the department said. “Agents found several rounds spent in a four-block area with no other information.”
The department did not respond to a request for more details on Friday, including the woman’s status or whether any arrests had been made.
According to a local affiliate of the NBC, the assailants “stopped and then once they reached the street, one of them leaned out the window and continued firing at the vehicle,” said Mateo Curry of HCSO.
Details of the incident that allegedly led to the shooting were also not released.

“There were between 10 and 12 shots,” neighbor Arletha Ferguson told KPRC and added that he ran after hearing the shots.
“My heart started beating really fast because it was some heavy pounding and it felt like someone was getting shot,” he told the station.
“I have been living here for over 15 years and this has never happened on my street. But you know, today’s weather can happen anywhere, ”Ferguson said.
