NEW YORK – Investigators are looking for a woman accused of throwing a substance in the face of another woman leaving a Brooklyn subway station overnight, leaving her with severe burns on the left side of her face.
Police said the victim was allegedly thrown the mysterious substance in his face before the attacker, dressed all in black, fled the station around 1am on Friday.
Authorities said the seemingly unprovoked attack took place at Winthrop Street station, around the corner from Kings County Hospital which services lines 2 and 5.
The woman was on her way to work as a home health aide when she first noticed her would-be attacker behaving strangely after the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station, a senior police official said. The unidentified woman was screaming and swearing on the train before following the victim to the Winthrop stop.
The senior official said the victim began recording video on her cell phone as she walked up the stairs to leave the station, with the other woman right behind her. Authorities released some of the images hours later in hopes of helping identify her.
The woman was rushed to the nearby hospital before being transferred to the burn ward at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, according to police. Her condition was not immediately known.
