NEW YORK — New Yorkers walk a lotbut how many streets have most of the city’s residents actually walked?
Well, a woman has officially walked down every street in Manhattan.
Maya González Berry is an avid hiker and began her quest to set foot on the district’s many, many streets in October 2018. Each morning, Berry left her apartment with a fitness tracker, a bottle of water, and a snack. .
When I returned home, I would trace the completed streets on a paper map with a black marker.
Berry paused her project during the pandemic, but continued her regular walks to run errands. And he never let himself be deterred by the weather, as he walked in rain, wind, snow or sun.
“There’s always that hustle and bustle, but there’s another side to New York once you get off that beaten path. And just seeing all the faces: the architecture, really looking at all the details of the buildings and finding little gems that you wouldn’t know about,” Berry said.
Berry ended his lack of walking every street in Manhattan in December, for a total of 640 miles.
