The woman, who is now in her mid-30s, has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison for having sexual intercourse with an underage girl. The girl was between 13 and 15 years old when the abuse occurred. The woman has also been sentenced to pay NOK 200,000 in compensation.
The sentence has been appealed and the woman has changed lawyers after she was convicted in the district court. Her new lawyer does not want to comment on the case to Nettavisen.
The victim’s defense lawyer, Elise Stilloff, says that her client was very relieved when the case was over, even though the defendant’s confession in court was very reserved.
– She had just started the process of taking her life back when we learned that the sentence has been appealed in its entirety, despite the guilty plea. The victim has taken this very seriously, says lawyer Stilloff.
Over ten years ago
The assaults took place more than ten years ago. The girl chose to report the conditions many years after they happened. This is very common in this type of case.

The then young woman came into contact with the girl through family friendship. The offended woman said that at the time she had been in a vulnerable situation. The young woman took on the role of older sister. From meeting in various family gatherings, they started meeting just the two of them in private.
The relationship quickly developed into an abusive one, where the young woman performed sexual acts on the girl, and caused the girl to perform acts on her. The victim explained in court that the two met repeatedly in secret. Because their families noticed that they were together a lot, and wanted to limit this togetherness, they made plans to be able to continue seeing each other without the families knowing about it.
After approximately one and a half years, the abusive relationship between the woman and the girl ended on its own, without there being a specific incident that put an end to the abuse.
The woman in her 30s initially denied the assaults when she was confronted with them during police questioning. In the Oslo district court, however, she acknowledged that they had taken place.

The assaults are also supported by conversations that the two had on social media during the period when they occurred.
Received penalty discount
“(Convicted persons) have acknowledged that there were repeated instances of sexual intercourse ( … ) The defendant’s explanation has been scant. She basically confirms what the victim has explained about the sexual relationship, but believes that the scope is somewhat smaller than what the victim has explained. ( … ) The defendant acknowledges that she has made a mistake and that the sexual contact with the victim should not have happened, but she felt that it was not problematic for the victim when it happened,” writes the Oslo District Court in the judgment.
The District Court therefore considered that the assault qualified for a sentence of four years and six months, but reduced the sentence to three years and three months because the woman acknowledged the circumstances.
“The confession has been a relief for the aggrieved party, even if the court considers that the defendant’s explanation has been brief and rather reserved. The victim has also expressed that she does not feel that the defendant in his explanation acknowledges what she has exposed the victim to, and that the defendant’s explanation has not alleviated the pain,” writes the district court.
The offended woman struggles with post-traumatic stress (PTSD) as a result of the assaults, and struggles with sleep problems, anxiety and nightmares, among other things.
– She feels that she has completely lost herself and that life is on hold. She feels that the events have made her not trust anyone. She is afraid of how it will affect her when she has children herself, writes the Oslo District Court.
Women and men as abusers
On the website of the Directorate for Children, Youth and Families (Bufdir), the directorate writes that “between 98 and 100 per cent of all assaults on girls are committed by men” and refers to a survey by Thoresen & Hjemdal from 2014.

At the same time, Bufdir refers to a survey carried out by Hafstad & Augusti in 2019 in which 10 per cent of the young people stated that the mother had committed abuse, while the father had committed abuse in 14 per cent of the cases.
In the same survey from 2019, 22 percent of young people between the ages of 12 and 16 stated that they had been subjected to sexual abuse. – In 62 per cent of the cases it is boys who are performers, and about half as often it is a girl, in 33 per cent of the cases, writes Bufdir from the survey.
