A woman from Rosenheim handed over cash and jewelery worth a mid-five-digit amount to an unknown collector on Friday (June 2). She only realized later that she had become a victim of scammers. The criminal police took over the investigation in the case and again warns of the scam.

Rosenheim – Yesterday, Friday, there were again a large number of fraudulent calls in the Rosenheim area. The police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South warned of this at the same time. In most cases, the potential victims responded correctly by hanging up the phone and informing the police.

However, a woman (69) from Rosenheim was deprived of a lot of money by the perfidious scammers. In the early Friday afternoon in downtown Rosenheim, she handed over cash and gold jewelery worth a mid-five-digit amount to an unknown man who allegedly acted as a money collector for the fraudsters. The collector then disappeared with the loot. Before that, scammers had engaged the woman in conversations for hours on the phone, telling her that the daughter had caused a serious traffic accident and had to post high bail to avoid arrest.

The criminal police inspectorate with central tasks of the police headquarters Oberbayern Süd is conducting the investigations in this case.

The scams used by scammers have been well known for a long time, but senior citizens in particular are still the victims and lose horrendous sums of money. The police therefore continue to warn urgently and give tips on how to behave:

  • Do not allow yourself to be put under pressure, not even by allegedly urgent investigations, e.g. B. to a burglary in the vicinity or a deposit that must be paid!
  • The police will never ask you for cash, money transfers or valuables to conduct an investigation! Just hang up!
  • Never give out information about your belongings, your cash and your valuables on the phone! Just hang up!
  • Do not let anyone into your home who wants to see where you keep your money or jewellery!
  • Never call back using the number displayed on the phone! DO NOT press redial. Hang up and then dial the emergency number 110!
  • Always file a complaint with your police station, even if you try it!
  • The younger ones in particular are expressly requested: speak openly about the perfidious scams of telephone scammers and sensitize your close relatives and acquaintances who could become victims of such devious calls!
