The dress that American rapper A$AP Rocky wore to the Met Gala earlier this month surprised more people, but a woman from California was completely perplexed. She recognized the rapper’s outfit as a bedspread from her great-grandmother.

“My great-grandmother’s bedspread was donated to a thrift store a while ago,” Sarah told US media. “When I saw the photo from the Met Gala, I immediately realized it was that bedspread. I read in Vogue that the designer found the quilt in Southern California, and his office is not far from us in Venice.”
The woman shares a photo of A$AP Rocky at the gala in the post, along with a snapshot her mother still had of the same bedspread on their old bed. “Looks like Grandma Mary went to the Met Gala with A$AP Rocky and wrote Vogue about it,” she wrote.
Sarah shared a second post not much later, in which she emphasizes that she is not angry or wants anything from the designer, Eli Russell Linnetz, with whom she has had nice contact. “I’m only posting because I love that my great-grandmother lovingly made this to keep my mom warm, and it’s now turned into a fantastic piece of art by incredibly talented people.”
A$AP Rocky’s friend Rihanna liked Sarah’s story: the singer gave both reports about the quilt’s provenance a thumbs up.
