In 2021, the woman said in the TV show Sailor Confronts: Stalkers that the man was stalking her. He would have sent her intimidating, threatening and racist messages, among other things. An investigation by presenter Thijs Zeeman and his team revealed that the woman had sent the messages to herself.
She did this by means of ‘spoofing’, which is a technique that allows you to send messages with a different identity. This made it seem as if the messages came from the man’s phone, while the woman had composed them herself.
The woman was believed by the police and the Public Prosecution Service, as a result of which the 55-year-old man was sentenced in 2019 to a prison sentence of twelve months, three of which were suspended. He also had to be treated in the Pieter Baan Center and pay compensation. The man denied the allegations. He has served his sentence and is now free.
The woman was confronted with the findings of the makers in an episode of the TV program and confessed and said she was sorry.
The Public Prosecution Service will now prosecute her for false declaration and identity fraud. The public prosecutor Menno Hoekstra said in RTL Boulevard that the man was probably wrongly convicted. He can submit a review request.
The man said to RTL Boulevard that it is a “great relief that she has finally been caught. Her prosecution is a first step towards justice for me”. He also indicated that his lawyer will submit a review request to the Supreme Court as soon as possible.
