Woman leaves daughter in car in sun to go shopping, reported

She left her five-year-old daughter alone in the car, parked in the sun, to go shopping in a store in Foligno, a forty-eight-year-old local woman who was reported at large for abandonment of a minor by the Carabinieri of the Foligno radiomobile section. According to the reconstruction of the military, the woman, mother of two children, locked the car before entering the store.

The military was alerted by some passers-by to the presence of the child. They then approached the vehicle and found the little girl sleeping in the back seat with her seat belt fastened. In an attempt to wake her, they first knocked on the window and then shook the car vigorously.

The little girl woke up and managed to open the back door and was immediately helped. She appeared – the Carabinieri report – hot and dizzy due to the high temperatures, having left the vehicle in the sun (even in the Umbrian city the heat is particularly intense these days). She was hydrated with a bottle of water and sugar while waiting for her mother to arrive, who was found after about twenty minutes thanks also to the audio announcement made by the shopping center staff. The investigations of the Carabinieri and the acquisition of video surveillance images from some cameras installed in the area, allowed them to reconstruct “in detail” the dynamics of the facts.
