Woman killed in Imst: search for body probably from Tuesday

The 33-year-old husband of a 31-year-old woman who had been missing in Imst in Tirol since Thursday was arrested on Saturday evening for urgent suspicion of murder. According to the State Criminal Police Office, the suspect is said to have strangled the Turkish-born woman after a violent argument, suffocated it with a cushion and then threw it into the Inn. He is said to have already confessed to the act.

There is still no trace of the 31-year-old’s body. The search with the police helicopter was interrupted for the time being, and water rescue had not found anything so far, LKA director Katja Tersch said to the APA late Sunday afternoon.

Imst: Will the search continue at all?

On Monday, advice will be given as to whether it makes sense to continue searching, says Tersch. The urgently suspected 33-year-old was, however, given the mandatory pre-trial detention provided for in such a case. The man was in the Innsbruck prison.

Imst: 150 people gather in front of the apartment

The 31-year-old had disappeared from the married home in Imst on Thursday morning. A violent crime could not be excluded; investigations and interviews were carried out. On Saturday evening, the pressure from the family environment on the 33-year-old had finally increased. According to the investigators, up to 150 people – family members and onlookers – gathered in front of the suspect’s house. “It was a very heated mood,” said Tersch. Those present apparently wanted to “have access to the suspect” and “make a complaint”. 15 police patrols and the special task force Cobra were opened. However, the operation went without further incidents.

Man wanted to direct suspicions towards suicide

After all, the 33-year-old is said to have made a confession in another survey. He said that the message he had written himself from the victim’s cell phone initially tried to direct the suspicion that his wife would commit suicide. According to the State Criminal Police Office, messages were sent to family members, from which it was clear that her husband should now take care of their son.

The suspect should be heard again on Sunday, said LKA director Tersch. In addition, evidence of the 33-year-old’s car was also carried out, with which he brought his wife’s body to the Inn.
