Woman killed in Basel’s Breite district – unknown perpetrator on the run
On Thursday afternoon, part of the Breite district was cordoned off by the police. The reason for this was unclear for a long time. In the evening, the public prosecutor’s office announced that it was assuming a homicide. The unknown perpetrator is on the run.

It was an unusual afternoon for the Basel rescue services. Shortly before 2 p.m., the police received a tip-off from a third party. When they arrived at the apartment building on Nasenweg in the Breite district, the emergency services found a lifeless female person in the stairwell. The Basel public prosecutor’s office announced this in the evening. The investigating authority assumes that the incident was a homicide. According to the statement, the unknown perpetrator is on the run and the victim has not yet been identified. A resident also reported that a man had behaved suspiciously in the property.
The area of Lehenmattstrasse and Nasenweg was cordoned off on Thursday afternoon. Residents were not allowed through either. For a long time it was not clear what had happened: “Why am I not allowed to go home?” asked one resident of the police officer present. Shortly before, she had spoken on the phone to her husband, who was in their shared apartment on Nasenweg – and was not allowed to leave the building.
Special commission appointed for clarification
Two young men left the cordoned-off area after 4 p.m. They also live on Nasenweg and observed the operation from afar. One of the two said: “A woman was evacuated from her balcony by the fire brigade.” In addition to the police officers in uniform, emergency personnel in white protective suits were also on the scene.
The public prosecutor’s office says that the identities of the victim and perpetrator as well as the exact course of events are the subject of investigations. The criminal investigation department has set up a special commission for this purpose. Anyone who can provide information is asked to contact the police by phone or at a station.
Bus line 36 was diverted
Several emergency services were deployed yesterday. In addition to the Basel police, the rescue service with emergency doctor and the professional fire brigade, a care team was also on site. Several police dog units and the forensic medicine department were also present. The area was secured by armed members of the Basel police special unit.
Public transport was also affected. As the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB) reported on Thursday afternoon on «X», there was an interruption in traffic in the Redingstrasse area. Bus line 36 was affected, which was cancelled between Breite and Redingstrasse and had to be diverted in both directions.
