Woman in Newcastle Almost Dies from Toxic Shock Syndrome Due to Forgotten Tampon

Jakarta

A woman in Newcastle, Australia, said she almost died because she did not remove her menstrual tampon for two months. The woman named Kelsey Foster had to fight for her life in the hospital after experiencing toxic shock syndrome (TSS).

Kelsey has been in and out of the hospital many times over the last few months with serious gallbladder and liver problems. As for this condition, he already had before experiencing TSS, so it had nothing to do with it.

Kelsey also admits that she is used to feeling pain because she has endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

Therefore, when she started experiencing cramps that were very painful, Kelsey always associated them with endometriosis or gallbladder problems. In fact, the reality is not because of the disease.

At one point, the 29-year-old woman went into the bathroom and felt something ‘come out’ of her. At first Kelsey thought it was a blood clot, a condition she usually suffers from endometriosis.

But after taking a closer look, it turned out that the ‘something’ that came out of him was an old tampon. This event made him panic with fear.

While Kelsey isn’t sure how long the tampon has been in her, she predicts it could be around six weeks to two months, maybe even longer.

“I’ve been in and out of hospital five times in the last two months with severe cramps and pain,” he told news.com.au

“It was found that I had gallstones and then my gallbladder collapsed. My liver also showed signs of irritation. I was waiting for the operation and to have tests. One day, I went to the bathroom and I felt something coming out of me,” he added. Again.

“I’m not sure how long this has been going on inside of me, but it must have happened at least six weeks ago, because that was the last time I had my period. My menstrual cycle was very irregular,” she said.

Kelsey admitted that she did not know how she could forget to remove her tampon, but she was sure that this was due to stress and her routine while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

After the tampon was off her body, Kelsey put it in a zip-lock bag to show the doctor who tested it, collected blood, and then confirmed the diagnosis of TSS.

“It was a ‘you’re very lucky you didn’t die’ situation,” he said.

“I’m thankful I found the tampon when I found it. Toxic shock can kill you in a matter of days, I was very lucky that it didn’t get to that stage,” she said.

This woman with one child has now returned to her home after receiving treatment at the hospital, but is still under the supervision of a doctor. Kelsey is also required to take three tablets a day and keep her body hydrated.
