Woman in her 80s missing in fire in Alver – NRK Vestland

A semi-detached house in Havnevegen on Frekhaug in Alver municipality was completely overheated. The fire broke out around 4 p.m.

The fire brigade announced around 17.45 that the fire has been extinguished. Extinguishing will take place throughout the evening.

A woman in her 80s is registered at the home. She is currently missing. Relatives have been notified and are being cared for by health and municipal personnel, according to Eivind Hellesund, operations manager in the West police district.

The woman must be the only one registered at the address. The house is owned by Alver municipality. No one else is injured.

The area will be cordoned off. Forensic scientists will investigate the scene whenever possible.

The fire will be investigated by Nordhordland police station district.

Evacuated town halls

Police asked spectators to pull away and keep their distance from the home. Efforts were made to set up roadblocks.

– We ask people to stay away. Because of the smoke, but also to make room for crews on site to work, Hellesund said.

The fire spread to the other house in the same building. This must be empty.

– We are working to limit that the fire does not spread to other nearby buildings, said duty commander in 110 West, Håkon Myking.

The residential area is relatively densely populated. A private event in a town hall was evacuated for a period due to the development of smoke.

Lots of smoke in the area

The fire service is considering evacuating several homes nearby.

– These are assessments that are taken continuously on site, Myking said.

Police are asking residents in the area to keep windows closed and close the ventilation to homes.
