The news of the incident came just before 5 pm on Friday afternoon.
It was first reported that the woman in her 60s was critically injured. Now she is out of danger.
The hospital will probably finish its treatment during the evening and night. The relatives are informed that things are going well.
– The situation is far better than one would have thought. It is still a very serious case, says operations manager Øystein Eikedalen in the South-East police district.
Stabbed near his own home
The woman who was stabbed lives in a terraced house apartment at Kalstad in Kragerø. It is unclear whether the stabbing took place inside the woman’s home or outside.
The two women live in the same area.
The police work on the basis that they have a crime scene indoors and a crime scene outside.
First, the police were informed that there was a relationship between the two women, but then it turned out that this is not the case.
– We have no information about what may have happened in advance here, says Eskil Hagen Olsen, assignment manager for the police in Telemark.
The police have no overview of who may have seen the incident, but say that there are many people in the area now. The police have people out interrogating.

The woman in her 20s was taken to the emergency room for a physical check-up after the arrest. She is not injured.

Forensic scientists are on scene to investigate. They will last throughout the evening.
The municipality’s crisis team has been called out to take care of people who live there and are present.
