Less than 50 minutes ago
On Thursday, BT wrote that a car was driving in the 181 km/h 100 zone in the Lyshorn tunnel.
– It is not usual. It is very fast, said operations manager Terje Magnussen in the police.
UP leader: “Selfish and ruthless”
The rough driving took place on the new E39 between Os and Rådal, known as the first road in Vestland with a 100-zone.
This was at 3 pm on Thursday. Behind the wheel sat a woman in her 50s.
According to the police in Bergen south, the measurement started on the Os side of the tunnel.
– A case has been opened and the driver’s license has been seized, BT is informed by the guard at Bjørnafjorden police station.
3514 meter
The head of the Emergency Police (UP) in the west, Terje Oksnes, states on Friday that they have not measured higher speeds on the stretch.
He says this was an average measurement carried out by one of UP’s civil patrols. The distance was 3,514 metres, the photo from the patrol car shows.
That stretch therefore took around one minute and ten seconds to cover.
Here is the measurement that was made on Thursday. At the bottom left is how long the measuring distance is. In the lower middle, the average speed is 181.18 km/h. Photo: UP
“Selfish and reckless”, is Oksnes’ characteristic of the driving.
– The surrounding traffic finds it difficult to deal with such a speed, and the potential for a serious accident is very much present, writes Oksnes in a text message.

This is what the loss regulations say
In the 100-zone, the entry point for driver’s license suspension is 141 km/h, according to the so-called the loss regulation.
According to it, speeds between 179 and 185 km/h should initially lead to the loss of driving privileges for 21–24 months.
In a circular from 2021, guidelines are given for when the prosecution must demand imprisonment in cases of reckless driving. In the 100 zone, the limit is set to go at 165 km/h.
According to the lawyer on duty in the West police district, Lasse Solheim, the case has not yet been registered with them. BT spoke to Solheim at 1pm on Friday.

– More than quickly enough
The emergency police (UP) has previously expressed that the problem with speeds in the 100 zone on the new E39 is probably limited. It was stated in a BT case three months ago.
At the time, neither the local police nor UP were aware of reports or speeds that had led to driver’s license confiscations.
As of then in 2023, 128 km/h was registered as the highest measured speed in the 100 zone. In a previous case, UP referred to a measurement of 137 km/h.

The new E39 opened on 31 October last year. A few months later, UP chief Oksnes said this:
– This is the first road with a 100-zone in Vestland. I would think that is more than fast enough for many.
