According to Japanese media such as the Yomiuri Shimbun on the 3rd (local time), the police arrested a woman in her 20s on charges of attempted murder in connection with a knife attack that occurred at JR Akihabara Station in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

According to the police, the woman is suspected of swinging a knife at passengers on the subway around 11 p.m. on this day, injuring four people. She said that at the time of the incident, there were reports that “there was a woman brandishing a weapon inside a car on the Yamanote Line.”

Three of the injured were reported to be in serious condition but not life-threatening. It is reported that the injured were stabbed in the back, chest, and side. In addition to the injured man, another man’s outerwear was torn but he was not injured.
There was no acquaintance between the female perpetrator and the victims. Police secured a weapon believed to have been used in the crime at the scene, and an additional weapon was found in the woman’s bag.
Due to this incident, the train made an emergency stop at Akihabara Station, and the police arrived at the scene and arrested a woman in her 20s. During the police investigation, the woman admitted to the charges, stating, “She boarded the train at Ueno Station and stabbed a person (with her weapon) to kill him.”
According to the relevant authorities, this incident temporarily suspended operations on the Yamanote Line, causing inconvenience to approximately 4,000 passengers.
