The woman has recently returned from the Italian region of Lombardy, reports a spokesperson for the RIVM. She is in home insulation.

The woman has been tested twice positive for the COVID-19 virus through laboratory tests. The GGD Haaglanden is conducting contact research to identify who the woman has been in contact with. Patient contacts are approached by the GGD and must record their temperature twice a day. As soon as they get symptoms, they are placed in isolation and tested.

The first infection in the Netherlands was reported by the RIVM on Thursday. It is about a man from Loon op Zand. He has been admitted to the Elisabeth hospital in Tilburg. On Friday it was announced that a woman from Amsterdam was also infected with the virus. She is in home insulation in her temporary home in Diemen. Both people were also recently in Lombardy. There is no link between the two infections.

Earlier on Saturday it was announced that the partner and child of the Amsterdam woman and the wife and daughter of the man from Loon op Zand also had the virus.
