The new corona virus has been detected in a 21-year-old woman from Biel. It is in quarantine in the Biel hospital center, according to the canton of Bern.

The woman returned from Milan a week ago and has suffered from a dry cough and sore throat since Tuesday, the report said. But she has no fever. She went to the hospital on Thursday and the Covid 19 diagnosis was made late Friday evening, which the reference laboratory in Geneva confirmed. This increases the number of documented cases in Switzerland to 13. Patients in ten cantons are affected.

In the case of the sick Bielerin, the cantonal medical office now carries out the so-called “contact tracing”. It tracks the chain of infection and determines who the young woman has been in direct contact with since she was infected. These people are immediately isolated and tested for the virus.

For reasons of personal protection, Gundekar Giebel from the Health, Social and Integration Directorate of the Canton of Bern cannot disclose how many and which people are already isolated.

No further restrictions at the moment

So far, in the canton of Bern Good 120 people negative to the virus tested. How many moree cases be clarified at the momentcan’t say gable. The reason is that each hospital in the canton of Bern records the cases individually.

The canton of Bern does not plan any additional restrictions because of the first confirmed corona case in the region. The epidemic level 2 ordered by the Federal Council on Friday is currently sufficient, says Giebel. Events can only take place in the canton of Bern, if the organizers identify all participants and no one has been in Covid 19 affected regions in the past two weeks, “Since Friday it has been much easier for us to trace who a sick person was in contact with,” says Giebel.

The cantonal governing body of the canton of Bern and the cantonal doctor Linda Nartey call people who have had contact with a person suffering from Covid-19 to contact a doctor by phone and do not go straight to a practice or hospital emergency.
