Woman finds huge pile of waste in garden: ‘I can’t help but cry’ | Abroad

A judicial investigation has been started in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw into the perpetrators who filled the garden of the house in the Kerkhofstraat in Zuun with junk. Het Nieuwsblad writes about this. It is not yet clear what will happen to the immense illegal landfill.

Nadine now lives in an apartment in Ganshoren and works as a nurse in a Brussels hospital. She takes care of her two young children and goes through divorce.

Tons of waste

“Because of the divorce, it had been a while since I came to look at the house again. But I didn’t even get to the front door. ” Nadine has no idea who dumped the waste in her garden. “It is really hallucinatory. I can’t help but cry. The skylights of the house have also been stolen, as have some of the roof tiles. I immediately informed the police ”, the woman tells television channel RTL.

The police started an investigation and soon traces of the possible perpetrators were found among the rubble. A judicial investigation has been started and is still ongoing. There may be more to it than just a case of illegal waste dumping.

Clean up yourself

“Because the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide more details at the moment,” said Mayor Jan Desmeth. “According to our environmental department, there is no danger to public health.”

The question is what should be done with the tons of waste in the garden. “The debris is on private property and then the rule applies that the owner must clean up the waste himself. The municipality is not allowed to intervene. Obviously, this is an exceptionally large amount of waste that would reportedly cost more than 20,000 euros to clean it up. It is clear that this is not self-evident for the owner. But once the investigation is over, the owner can recover the costs from the person who is considered the perpetrator ”, Jan Desmeth concludes.

Meanwhile, friends of Nadine Mulumba have started a campaign to raise money to pay for the cleaning up of the huge mountain of waste.
