NEW YORK – A woman died after being shot point-blank outside a Brooklyn deli, a crime allegedly carried out by her ex-girlfriend, who turned herself in to the New York Police Department on Wednesday night.
The execution-style murder took place on a sidewalk at the corner of St. Marks Pl. And 4th Ave. in Park Slope after 1 p.m. Wednesday, the NYPD said.
A 51-year-old woman, later identified as Nichelle Thomas, was about to enter a local warehouse when another woman was seen on surveillance video walking behind her, pulling out a gun and shooting her in the back of the head.
The holster, dressed completely in black, fled the scene of the incident. Thomas was rushed to the hospital, where he died. Warehouse workers at the time of the shooting said the victim was a frequent and much loved customer.
Police said Latisha Bell was arrested after turning herself into a barracks Wednesday night. The 38-year-old woman was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Information from Bell’s attorney was not immediately released.
Neighbors said Thomas, who lived alone a couple of blocks from where the shooting occurred, and Bell had a volatile relationship, often fighting.
A police investigation is underway.
