Xiaoping (pseudonym), a mainland woman, once worked as a cashier for a construction group in Shanxi. Her work was smooth, but her relationship was bumpy and dangerous. She had been on and off with her boyfriend for several years, but she never got married. After trying to maintain her relationship for many times to no avail, she accidentally heard the saying that “Feng Shui and numerology can help you find a good match”, so she sought help from a master to help her get married by performing rituals, even at the cost of embezzling RMB 6 million (approximately NT$25.94 million) from the company.

“Jiupai News” reported that Xiaoping found a store called “Yuanshen Tianshi” on the Internet and placed an order for a 1,000 yuan blessing bag to pray for herself, but she did not wait for her boyfriend to change his mind. Xiaoping went to the online store customer service “Zhengyi Zhenren” and asked how to get her boyfriend to reconcile with her. The other party replied, “There is something unclean in your boyfriend that causes emotional disharmony. It needs to be eliminated through methods.”

As a result, Xiaoping placed larger orders for blessings and rituals. Later, customer service said that orders exceeding 10,000 yuan could not be placed in the store and that she needed to add WeChat friends to transfer funds. After becoming a friend on WeChat, Xiaoping confided her troubles to everyone very devoutly, and got a corresponding reply from the other party, saying that her boyfriend needed to kill off the peach blossoms, exorcise demons, pay off debts, etc. The master used this as an excuse to let Xiaoping purchase products and services such as spells, practices, and burning ingots.

During this period, Xiaoping expressed to the master many times that she had overdrafted a lot of money on her credit card due to purchasing the above-mentioned services, and she also had to pay off her mortgage, and she was already heavily in debt. The master immediately persuaded Xiaoping to continue purchasing online store services on the grounds that he would help open the treasury door and make up for the wealth. At this time, Xiaoping had lost her mind and was completely blinded by the master’s words. So she took advantage of her cashier status to privately take the company’s money for herself, totaling more than 6.07 million yuan.

In September 2021, the master was arrested in Taiyuan. Xiaoping suddenly realized that she had been defrauded when she saw an article published by a public security agency on its WeChat official account, and immediately reported the case to the local public security agency. When reporting the case, Xiaoping truthfully confessed the fact that she had misappropriated company funds, and admitted that she had transferred more than 6 million yuan from the company’s account within one and a half years without being noticed by others.

After the trial, the court found that the defendants Shao and Hua used feudal superstitious means to fabricate facts for the purpose of illegal possession to defraud the victim of a particularly huge amount of money. Their behavior constituted the crime of fraud and should be punished. They were sentenced to 15 years in prison and concurrently A fine of RMB 200,000 was imposed. Xiaoping took advantage of her position to illegally take possession of the unit’s property in a huge amount, which constituted the crime of job embezzlement. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined RMB 200,000 in accordance with the law.
