Woman dies in road collision on EN10 in Palmela – Portugal

A 69-year-old woman died this Sunday following a collision between the car she was driving and another light passenger car, on Estrada Nacional (EN) 10, in the municipality of Palmela (Setúbal), the authorities said.

Source of the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Setúbal explained to the Lusa agency that the alert for the accident, which occurred in Pegões-Gare, was given to the firefighters at 5:35 pm.

Contacted by Lusa, a source from the GNR’s Territorial Command of Setúbal, said that the fatal victim of the accident was “the driver of one of the light vehicles”, which also followed “a passenger who suffered injuries” without any seriousness.

The mortal victim was transported to the Legal Medicine services of Hospital do Barreiro, while the slightly injured person was taken by firefighters to the Hospital de São Bernardo, in Setúbal.

According to the CDOS, two other people were assisted at the scene as a result of the accident, but refused transportation to a health facility. GNR said it had no record of these victims.

Traffic was temporarily cut off in both directions on the EN10, in the area of ​​the collision, to help the victims, but in the meantime, road traffic “has already been resumed and is being carried out alternately”, the source of the GNR told Lusa .

The causes of the collision will be investigated by the Center for Criminal Investigation of Road Accidents (NICAV) of the Setúbal Traffic Detachment of GNR, which was activated for the location.

The rescue operation mobilized a total of 14 operatives, supported by eight vehicles, including means from the fire brigade, the GNR and the National Institute for Medical Emergency (INEM), namely an emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle.
