A shocking incident took place outside a district health centre in Madhya Pradesh, where a woman had to deliver her baby without any assistance from the doctors or nurses present at the hospital. The incident sheds light on the apathetic state of health apparatus and brings into focus the negligent attitude of the hospital staff. Arun Parihar, the woman’s husband, claimed that despite informing the hospital staff about his wife’s labour pains, they did not come to her aid, which resulted in the birth of the baby girl right outside the hospital. Parihar alleges that even after the delivery, the hospital staff was slow to respond, and only brought in a stretcher and admitted the mother and baby to the hospital once a crowd had started to assemble. Such incidents highlight the dire need for better healthcare facilities in India and stricter measures to hold medical staff accountable for their negligence.
