The police are investigating an unknown person for fraud via Whatsapp. The case occurred in the area of responsibility of the Edenkoben Police Inspectorate. The scammer had used Messenger to pretend to be the son of a 61-year-old woman and told her her cell phone was broken. He now he would have a new cell phone number. No longer able to access his online banking, he asked the woman to transfer more than 4,000 euros to pay an outstanding bill. The woman accepted the request. To unmask scammers, the police appeal to call the person or ask for a voicemail to verify his identity before making a transfer. This is the only way to ensure that no strangers abuse an account.
