Woman charged after fatal accident with electric scooter in France

The incident has created a new debate in France about the safety of the use of electric scooters, which are very popular, but also controversial, in the French capital.

The accident happened on June 14 when an Italian woman living in Paris was hit by an electric scooter in a pedestrian street along the Seine. The woman died two days later from the injuries.

After a week and a half of searching for the perpetrator, a woman was arrested last Thursday. This weekend she was charged with grievous bodily harm resulting in death.

This is not the first fatal accident in Paris where electric scooters have been involved. In 2019, a man in his 80s died after being hit, and last year a woman in her 70s lost her life for the same reason.

It is forbidden to ride electric scooters on sidewalks in Paris, and it is also not allowed to have more people on them. It is also not allowed to drive faster than 20 km / h, and it is forbidden to park on sidewalks. But many, both residents and tourists, either blow the rules or are not aware of them.

Last year, almost 80 people were injured after being hit by electric scooters in Paris.
