Woman blames GPS for sending her to dangerous slum in Rio de Janeiro where she was shot at – World

A Swiss tourist blames her car’s GPS for being attacked with her husband last Sunday afternoon in the Upper City of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Brazilian press, this information was revealed by Miranda Pia Regazzoni, 64, in the statement made after the attack on the Civil Police on Sunday night.

The wife and her husband, businessman Michele Aangelo Galli, 73, apparently went from Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the West Zone, to Paraty, on the Costa Verde, where they would participate in the New Year’s celebrations. When they arrived at Avenida Brasil, the GPS will have guided the couple to follow the path through a slum, due to the traffic that was being felt. Upon entering the slum concerned, they were shot at.

Miranda told authorities that at least three gunmen in a red car fired at them at about 5:30 pm local time. One of the shots hit Michele’s chest. Miranda was injured by splinters in her hand.

After the attack, the couple still tried to escape. However, their car eventually crashed into a wall.

The couple had to be rescued and transported to the hospital. The businessman is in serious condition.

Authorities are conducting an investigation and have already set up a police operation to capture the suspects of this attack.

The Swiss Consulate has already contacted the couple, who arrived in Brazil on December 26.
