In Rio de Janeiro, a woman was arrested after taking a dead man in a wheelchair to a bank. She wanted to get the deceased to sign a loan, Brazilian media reported.
In published recordings, the woman can be seen putting the pen in the hand of the deceased and asking him to sign the document. The video shows the head of the body crawling back and forth before she grabs his neck with her left hand. “Sign up here and stop giving me a headache,” she says in Portuguese.
The staff became suspicious and called the police and an ambulance. Paramedics confirmed that the 68-year-old had died several hours earlier. When arrested, the woman claimed to be the deceased’s niece and carer.
Officers now want to look at surveillance cameras inside and outside the bank to find out if the woman was alone or suspected of being accomplices. It is suspected that this may be an organized fraud. The results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death have not yet been released.
According to local reports, the loan was for 17,000 Brazilian Real, which is equivalent to about 3,000 euros at today’s rate.
