A 57-year-old woman from Velp has called 112 unnecessarily more than three thousand times since February. The police report this.
The woman called from a phone without a SIM card, which made her difficult to trace. Investigation made it clear from which area the woman was calling, but an address could not be traced. This allowed her to do her thing for months.
This morning the woman called, probably accidentally, from a regular telephone. The operator made the connection with the many false reports and raised the alarm.
Thanks to the woman’s telephone number, her address was traced. She admitted to officers who went to her home that she had made the many fake calls, after which she was arrested. The telephone she used to make the calls has been confiscated, she writes Omroep Gelderland.
Why the woman called 911 so often is being investigated. The police have not ruled out that she needs help.
Unnecessarily calling 112 is a crime that costs officers and other first responders a lot of time, the police emphasize.
