The National Police of Valladolid has arrested two people, a woman and her lawyer, for crimes of documentary falsification when trying to fraudulently collect eight months of unemployment benefits, police sources reported to Europa Press.
The investigation began in December 2022 as a result of collaboration between public bodies within the framework of the fight against Social Security fraud and irregular employment, specifically with the Public State Employment Service (SEPE).
The events took place in 2021 when the woman, who has received unemployment benefits for people over 52 years of age since 2019, failed to comply with one of the essential requirements to continue accessing the payment of the same, by not presenting the income statement.
After eight months, the person involved corrected the deficiency, delivering the aforementioned statement to the SEPE of Valladolid, and therefore resuming the collection of the subsidy.
At that time, the woman processed a claim through her lawyer requesting the retroactive payment of the eight months not received, considering that the error had been made by the Administration. For this purpose, she delivered proof of presentation, before an official registry, of the required income statement.
Said proof of presentation was the object of study and analysis during the police investigation, until it was determined that it presented decisive indications of its fraudulent nature.
These manipulations in the document, together with the fact that the registration number contained in the delivered document corresponded to another file without any relation to the facts, allowed us to infer that the document had been falsified in order to mislead its recipient and thus obtain an economic benefit that otherwise would not have been entitled.
For this reason, on May 18, the woman and her lawyer were arrested, who intervened in the preparation and processing of the fraudulent documentation before the SEPE, also appearing as a representative of the interested party in the document analyzed.
Both detainees were released after transferring the police report to the judicial authority.
