The witness heard a woman with the initials W (38) and her two children aged 15 and 13 years screaming after being set on fire. her husband with the initials US (48), in West Cakung, East Jakarta (East Java). The victim’s neighbor, Ruswanto (39), heard screams from the house victim.
He then looked outside the house to check his condition. When he came out, the fire had burned the victim’s house which was right next to it.
“What I know is that there were screams from here next door, asking for help. When I came out, there was already a fire,” said Ruswanto when met by journalists at the location, Monday (3/7/2023).
Ruswanto saw that the victim and perpetrator had both been burned. They left the house screaming to seek help from residents.
Hearing that, the residents then put out the fire together in the victim’s house and on the victim’s body. They were then rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
“The victim and the perpetrator both ran outside to ask the residents for help, we will help them,” he said.
Had thought the cow had escaped
It is known that the incident occurred on the night of takbiran ahead of Eid al-Adha, on Wednesday (28/6) to be precise. At that time, there were four cows in the field not far from the scene of the incident.
Ruswanto thought that the screams were because residents were asking for help because the cow had escaped. Apparently, because of a fire next to his house.
“I thought at first it was screaming for help, there was a loose cow, there was a cow there, I thought asking for help, you know it’s fire,” he concluded.
