The man accused of fatally stabbing a 26-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl in a Bronx apartment was found dead Sunday, two senior New York City Police officials said.
The authorities indicated that the police officers arrived at the property in Monticello Avenue to carry out a welfare check when they found the woman and the little girl dead.
The investigators also found several knives inside the place. The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Officers tracked the suspect to another apartment building in Bivona Street where according to the police he barricaded himself. The two high officials said that the uniformed officers finally managed to access the place where they found him lifeless with injuries that he had caused himself.
So far no further details have been released about the death of the two victims; the motive and the relationship of the alleged attacker with them are unknown.
The identities of both victims were withheld pending family notification.
