The woman is also sentenced to pay reparation of a total of 600,000 kroner to the deceased’s survivors, according to the verdict from Søndre Østfold District Court, reports NTB.
The woman pleaded guilty in court.
It was on May 3 that a quarrel arose between the woman and her brother in their shared apartment in Halden. The quarrel ended with her stabbed him with a knife.
Called the emergency number myself
After the incident, according to the verdict, she called the VET center to notify that she had just stabbed her brother and needed help. She is said to have started cardiac / lung compression on her brother under the guidance of the VET center, until the emergency services arrived at the scene and took over. However, life could not be saved, and the man was confirmed dead just before 11 pm the same evening.
In its judgment, the district court emphasizes that the defendant has confessed, that this confession is supported by technical evidence, and they point out that her admission of guilt has made both the police investigation and the court proceedings less extensive than usual.
Furthermore, it is stated in the judgment that the accused has expressed both despair, guilt and shame over the pain she has inflicted on her close family, and that these circumstances are emphasized in a mitigating direction.
The prosecutor dropped the claim for eleven and a half years in prison for the woman. However, the district court was sentenced to eleven years in prison.
Birthday celebration
VG has previously been confirmed by prosecutor Anders Svarholt that it was celebrated a party in the apartment when the murder took place. The verdict states that it was a celebration of the defendant’s 47th birthday.
The mother is said to have been present during the company, and has had the status of a witness in the case. According to the verdict, there was a good mood in the company until a change of mood around 10 pm. A disagreement is said to have led to the defendant losing impulse control, and stabbing his brother in the chest.
Everyone at the scene was intoxicated when the murder took place. The woman was apprehended by the police when they arrived at the apartment, and has been in custody since the arrest.
The deceased brother was in his early 40s, leaving a nine-year-old son who lives elsewhere in the country. According to neighbors VG spoke to in May, the sibling couple had lived in the apartment since the autumn of 2020. In May, the woman’s defender, Kristin Morch, told VG that the accused described the relationship with his brother as a good relationship.
The verdict states that in 2019 an incident occurred where the brother attacked his now convicted murderer sister. The police were notified in connection with the incident.
