The deceased animal obviously had a gunshot wound, confirmed police spokesman Johann Baumschlager on Wednesday at the request of APA in a report by ORF Lower Austria. It is assumed that the four-legged friend was killed and disposed of in the river. An unknown person is being investigated for intentional damage to the animal or plant population.
According to Baumschlager, the police were informed on Tuesday around 9:50 p.m. that there was a dead animal in the Danube. Several patrols moved out, the carcass was recovered.
According to Baumschlager, the public prosecutor’s office in St. Pölten appointed an official veterinarian as an expert. The wolf was dissected at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna on Wednesday afternoon. The State Criminal Police Office of Lower Austria has taken over the investigation.
