Wolverhampton Wanderers continues to participate in the battle for a Champions League ticket in the Premier League. The ‘Wolves’ booked a narrow 0-1 victory on Saturday at Aston Villa.
Leander Dendoncker was crowned match winner. The midfielder scored the only goal of the game after more than an hour of play by shooting the ball in from the edge of the penalty area.
Wolverhampton rose to fifth place due to the victory at the expense of Manchester United. Manager Nuno’s team is two points behind number four Chelsea and three points ahead of number six Manchester United.
The top four qualifies for the Champions League group stage and may also be number five if Manchester City, the current number two, is actually excluded from European football by UEFA next season.
Villa, where Anwar El Ghazi came in against Wolverhampton just before time, is in danger of relegation. The ‘Villans’ are nineteenth, but have as many points as the ‘safe’ number seventeen West Ham United.
Villa-Wolverhampton is Saturday’s only game in the Premier League, in which Liverpool secured the title on Thursday. Later in the day, Norwich City and Manchester United will face each other in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup tournament.
