Wolfsburg’s women win at the bottom MSV Duisburg

Duisburg –

The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg stay in line with front-runner FC Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

The team of outgoing coach Stephan Lerch prevailed at the bottom of the pack MSV Duisburg 4-0 (1-0) and restored the old two-point gap to Bayern. The league leader had previously won 3-2 (2-1) at Turbine Potsdam. The game of the Munich women had been brought forward because of the participation in the Champions League semi-finals. On May 9, the top duo will face each other in Wolfsburg.

Striker Alexandra Popp gave the Wolves the lead in the 32nd minute when national goalkeeper Almuth Schult came back, while Lena Oberdorf (49th), Rebecka Blomqvist (60th) and Fridolina Rolfö (67th) scored the other goals. Schult played her first Bundesliga game since May 5, 2019. After the World Cup, she had to undergo shoulder surgery, after which she was suspended because of the birth of her twins. She joined the team for Katarzyna Kiedrzynek from Poland, who was injured on the left hand.

TSG Hoffenheim lost 0: 1 (0: 0) at SV Meppen, but with three outstanding games and five points ahead of Potsdam, the Kraichgau Champions League qualification place three can hardly be taken. Eintracht Frankfurt won 3-0 (0-0) at SC Freiburg, the relegation-threatened SC Sand prevailed 6-1 (1-1) against Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen defeated SGS Essen 2-1 on Friday evening (2 : 0).
