Wolfsburg (dpa) – The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg impressively underlined their outstanding position with a 5:0 (3:0) ruler in the top Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt. In front of 14,027 spectators at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday, the defending champion not only achieved his ninth victory in his ninth game thanks to three goals from Jill Roord. With 27 points, VfL also increased their lead over pursuers FC Bayern Munich (22) to five points. Frankfurt (20) slips to third place.
The sovereign leader seemed to have been inspired, perhaps even motivated by the atmosphere. After a pass from Lena Lattwein, Roord from the Netherlands gave Frankfurt goalkeeper Stina Johannes no chance with a shot into the far corner in the 5th minute.
Frankfurt managed to free themselves a bit, but did not arrive dangerously in front of Wolfsburg’s goal. Coach Tommy Stroot’s team decided the game before the break: Roord scored from a tight angle after a mistake by Johannes (43′), two minutes later Ewa Pajor headed from a corner to make it 3-0 at the interval.
Even after the change of sides, VfL dominated. After a pass from captain Alexandra Popp, the 25-year-old Roord headed in again and extended the lead to 4-0 with her third goal (53rd minute). Former Wolfsburg player Sara Doorsoun made it 5-0 with an own goal five minutes before the end.
The match against Frankfurt was the second game in the stadium where the men of VfL usually play. On matchday five, 21,287 fans attended the match against FC Bayern women (2:1).
