The city of Wolfsburg has introduced a second home tax to improve the budget. This has been in effect since August 1st, as reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony. Around 10,000 citizens have registered a secondary residence in Wolfsburg. The city now wants to check who has to pay the second home tax. There are many exceptions that are exempt, such as people who have a second home in Wolfsburg for professional reasons, the city announced on Friday. In addition, there are many entries that are no longer up to date. In addition to Wolfsburg, Salzgitter, Goslar and Braunlage also levy taxes on secondary apartments in the region. As a result, Goslar posted revenues of more than 400,000 euros in five years. Göttingen abolished the tax again because the costs were too high.
