San Sebastian – The women of VfL Wolfsburg will start the final tournament of the Football Champions League on Friday with the best cast.
“As of now, all players are fit and fit,” said coach Stephan Lerch at the press conference for the quarter-final game against Scottish champions Glasgow City (Friday, 6 p.m. / Sport1) in San Sebastian.
The big goal of the women from Wolfsburg is to win the triple of the Champions League, championship and DFB Cup for the second time after 2013 and 2014. The preparation for the final tournament in the Spanish cities of Bilbao and San Sebastian was apparently not disrupted by the news that master coach Lerch will leave VfL a year after his contract expires. “There is a lot of pepper in our training units. We have the big goal of winning the Champions League and we will give everything for that », said captain Alexandra Popp.
Opponent Glasgow is only an outsider on Friday evening, even if Popp warned: “They have some good and experienced players.” The winner of this game will play next Tuesday in the semi-finals against Atletico Madrid or FC Barcelona. At their international rivals Olympique Lyon, the Wolfsburg women can only meet in the final on August 30th in San Sebastian.
