Cologne – VfL Wolfsburg unexpectedly had to change trains on the way to the last away game of the Bundesliga season at 1. FC Köln.

“Actually, we should drive to Cologne, but the air conditioning in our car failed,” reported Wolfsburg striker Max Kruse in an Instagram story. Accordingly, the team in Hamm simply had to get out.

“It is true that a single carriage of the ICE 858 had to be evacuated yesterday due to a fault in the air conditioning system in Hamm. However, there was a special train available in Hamm that travelers could change to,” a railway spokeswoman said when asked by dpa. The special train reached Cologne Central Station 20 minutes after the ICE.

Kruse saw it like this: “They thought: Let’s punish everyone who is sitting in the compartment or car and just throw them out,” said Kruse: “They just have to get off and have to continue with another train. It’s our fault, so to speak.”
