Wolfsburg – coach Oliver Glasner can leave VfL Wolfsburg this year according to a report in the “Kicker” sports magazine.
The reason is an exit clause in the Austrian’s contract, which is still valid until 2022, writes the specialist magazine. The Wolfsburg did not want to comment on contract details on request. Glasner himself answered the “kicker” when asked how he was planning his future: “In the coaching job there is no predictability.” Such a release clause also enables Gladbach coach Marco Rose to move to Borussia Dortmund after this season.
After eight games without defeats and conceding a goal, Wolfsburg had to accept another sporting setback with the DFB Cup at RB Leipzig (0: 2). “I can’t blame the boys at all. I’m also really proud of how they tried everything again, ”said Glasner.
The third place in the table in the Bundesliga had to buy the 46-year-old from an ongoing contract with Linz ASK in the summer of 2019 against payment of a transfer fee in order to sign him as the successor to Bruno Labbadia. In his first season Glasner led VfL again to a Europa League place, currently the team is even on the Champions League course.
Despite this sporting development, dissonances between the coach and the sporting management became public in November because Glasner had regretted the failed engagement of another offensive player in a Sky interview.
At that time, managing director Jörg Schmadtke forbade such statements about the squad planning, but now expressly praised Glasner in an interview with the “kicker”. «The trainer does it really well. The team is well prepared, it is thanks to him, ”he said. The next opponent in the Bundesliga is TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky).
