Toto Wolff thinks little change has taken place in last season’s pecking order when the Formula 1 circus lands in Austria this weekend. The Mercedes team boss expects the ‘usual suspects’ up front, but does not exclude that Racing Point has taken a step forward.
“Formula 1 has always managed to bring out the positive, so even now we will see a spectacle, even without an audience,” says Wolff in conversation with the German variant of Motorsport.com. “I think it will be a great show and that will certainly compensate for the crazy entourage.”
“Protecting our staff and working safely is really central,” emphasizes the team boss. “That is our top priority. In addition, we will mainly be busy adapting to the new situation. We have to constantly move in ‘bubbles’ and that is exciting. Where does racing come from? Somewhere after that, I think. “
Racing Point can appear ‘just like that’ at the front, but chances are slim
Wolff thinks the ‘usual suspects’ will appear in the top three, although he doesn’t rule out a stunted Racing Point. “Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari will remain the top teams, but who knows what Racing Point can do.
