Wolff gives update on health Hamilton: “He is not in good shape”

According to Toto Wolff, things are not going too well at the moment Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion was tested positive for the corona virus last Monday and has been in isolation since then.

In Formula 1 there are very strict protocols with the aim of keeping the corona virus out of the paddock as much as possible. One of the measures is that everyone in the paddock is tested for the virus several times a week, so that any (asymptotic) infections can be quickly detected. As a result, Lewis Hamilton was tested no less than three times last week, each time getting a negative result.

On the Monday morning after the Bahrain Grand Prix, the Mercedesdriver, however, wakes up with mild symptoms. Almost at the same time, he was told that someone he had been in contact with before arriving in Bahrain had also tested positive for the virus. The Briton took it safe and had himself tested again and got a positive test back.

The seven-time world champion has now been in isolation in Bahrain for a few days, hoping that he will be better in time to be able to ride the season final in Abu Dhabi. However, this is not going as well as they had hoped, his team boss reports from the paddock. “He’s not in good shape,” Wolff reveals opposite Sky Sports. “COVID-19 isn’t something we shouldn’t take seriously. But it’s in good hands and that’s most important in those first few days. Especially if you’re not okay for the first few days,” Wolff said.
