Wolf Haller Resigns as Head Coach of SF Eintracht Freiburg: End of an Era

An era has come to an end at SF Eintracht Freiburg almost unnoticed: Wolf Haller, who first helped shape the club’s football fortunes as a youth coach and since 2016 as head coach, has resigned from his position.

“As a district association, you have to do more than a village association in order to create identification and you have to create other incentives for young people,” says Haller, explaining his approach. Over the years, these topics have been implemented together with football department head Jörg Schweier, games committee Timo Laske and deputy youth director Thomas Winterhalder. In terms of sport, the SFE went from the district league B to the district league during this time, the highlight being the district cup victory in 2019. The Freiburgers were only relegated again this spring.

Although things are going well for the club as third in the district league A, season I, Haller was worried whether the structures might be at risk. The team council expressed wishes for new training impulses. Haller spoke to those responsible and offered his resignation. “Wolf is someone who always put the club above himself,” says Laske. The step was taken by mutual agreement. Timo Laske, Jörg Schweier, Frank Stöcklin and Tom Brockhöft will share the coaching duties until the winter break.
