REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) ensures the use of bacteria Wolbachia In efforts to control the transmission of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), it has proven effective in reducing infected cases by up to 77 percent. Its application is also supported by scientific evidence.

“This has been tested since 2011 in dozens of countries in the world which have published 10 paper international publication research,” said Ministry of Health Health Transformation Communication Technical Staff Ngabila Salama in Jakarta, Monday (20/11/2023).

Ngabila said Wolbachia is a good innovation, safe, effective, long-term treatment step, and can be accounted for in reducing dengue cases in Indonesia. The use of Wolbachia is even more effective than treating dengue fever through fumigation, considering that it is relatively more expensive and makes mosquitoes more resistant.

However, what about people’s complaints about the large number of mosquitoes after the release of wolbachia mosquito larvae?

Ngabila said the public did not need to worry when in the initial period of Wolbachia release, the mosquito population in the surrounding environment increased.
