Teh 2024 USA 3×3 Women’s AmeriCup Team roster has been announced, and it includes a surprising selection: Abbey Hsu, a standout player from Columbia University.
Hsu will join WNBA stars Azurá Stevens, Maddie Siegrist, and Brittney Sykes in Puerto Rico next week for the 3×3 competition, where they will face off against teams from across the Americas. Hsu, on the other hand, was drafted 34th overall by the Connecticut Sun after a stellar collegiate career at Columbia University. She opted not to report to Sun training camp this past spring and did not play in the WNBA this past season. though, she is expected to attend Sun training camp in the future. Whether she will ultimately carve out a career in the WNBA remains to be seen.

Hsu’s selection is a testament to her remarkable talent. She beat out a number of WNBA rotation players who were vying for a spot on the team. Nine other players participated in the developmental camp in Phoenix in November but were ultimately not selected: Shakira Austin (Washington Mystics), Grace Berger, Rae Burrell (Los Angeles Sparks), Emily Engstler (Mystics), Natasha Howard (Dallas Wings), Taylor Mikesel, Alissa Pili (Minnesota Lynx), Jaylyn Sherrod (New York Liberty), and Sug Sutton (Mystics).
A 5’11” guard, Hsu had a remarkable career at Columbia, averaging 20.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in her senior season. She became the first woman ever drafted out of the university after being named Ivy League Player of the Year in 2024.
The FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup is an annual tournament that has been held since 2021. The U.S. women’s team has a strong track record in the competition,winning in 2021 and 2023,and finishing third in 2022. This year’s tournament will take place from December 12 to 15 in San juan, Puerto Rico, and will feature 15 teams from across the Americas.
