    Włodzimierz Szaranowicz retired from journalism in 2019. Before that, he had been commentating on key sports events in Poland and around the world for 43 years. His decision was dictated by his deteriorating health caused by Parkinson’s disease.

    The journalist admitted in an interview with TVP Sport that he had the first symptoms 4 years earlier. He noticed problems associating facts and his reaction to stress was getting worse. However, as he himself admitted, he thought that “the engine was starting to seize up a bit”.

    Szaranowicz admitted that he suffers from Parkinson’s disease

    Szaranowicz’s illness made itself known in early July, during the oath-taking of Polish athletes before the Olympic Games in Paris. The journalist was given the title of honorary press attaché of the Polish Olympic Committee.

    As he himself admits, the journalist is afraid of public speaking. His fear stems from “lack of strength”.

    Now that I am functioning at a slow speed, it is quite okay. If I go out, I regain my verve in speaking, my mind works better. The most troublesome thing is everyday life

    The doctor wanted to amputate Szaranowicz’s leg

    Włodzimierz Szaranowicz has taken care of his body and physical condition practically all his life, including running. He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Physical Education, as a basketball coach. During his studies, he played for the capital’s AZS.

    His sports career was interrupted by an injury. While skiing, he caught a root and broke his leg. The doctor suggested amputating the limb. Szaranowicz refused. Eventually, everything healed.
