Viennese give presents to mothers worth 52 euros – flowers are the most popular
Vienna (OTS) – “For me, mothers are the heroines of everyday life. You have achieved a great deal in the last few months – especially due to the multiple burden of homeschooling. The small thank you for Mother’s Day can be bigger this year, ”says Margarete Gumprecht, chairwoman of the trade division of WK Vienna, on the occasion of Mother’s Day next Sunday. 84 percent of Viennese want to give something to their own mothers on this day, 12 percent to their mothers-in-law and 9 percent to their grandmothers. Mother’s Day gifts are preferred to be bought in brick-and-mortar stores, which were allowed to open their doors again yesterday.
For Mother’s Day, the children, children-in-law and grandchildren reach deep into their pockets. The Viennese spend an average of 52 euros. 13 percent of Viennese will spend more on Mother’s Day present this year. 77 percent will keep their spending the same as last year. 10 percent will spend less money on a gift. By the way: women are more willing to give than men; 66 percent of women and 60 percent of men want to surprise their mothers with a present.
“The Viennese shops offer lots of gift ideas and provide expert and loving help in finding the right present,” explains Gumprecht. The most popular gifts are flowers / plants (53 percent), followed by sweets / chocolate / pralines (26 percent) and perfume / cosmetics / personal care products (19 percent). The most popular flower to give away is the rose (33 percent). This is followed by tulips (17 percent) and orchids (13 percent). 83 percent buy their flowers in flower shops.
As in the previous year, the mothers’ day is still dominated by the corona pandemic. 37 percent of Viennese who otherwise celebrate with their mothers will not do so this year. “Nevertheless, Mother’s Day is a very important sales impulse in May,” says Gumprecht in conclusion.
