Wizz Air to Ground Dozens of Airbus A321neo Aircraft at Mošnov Airport Due to Engine Issues

The planes will probably wait at Mošnov for replacement of the problem engines.

Wizz Air has to withdraw dozens of Airbus A321neo aircraft from service. The reason is the problematic Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines. Before the low-cost carrier has time to replace all the affected power units, the planes have to be grounded for some time. This could lead to a temporary reduction in capacity, but the company informed about this in advance.

Wizz Air should park several Airbuses at the Ostrava airport. Two are already located in Mošnov. Airport spokeswoman Kateřina Pustějovská confirmed this to Deník Zdopravy.cz.

Six planes are scheduled to land in Ostrava on the night from Sunday to Monday. Flightradar24.com reports on machines with registrations HA-LVB, 9H-WAT, HA-LVF, HA-LZO, HA-LZN and HA-LVP. In addition, it is most likely not a finite number.

The Job Air Technic aircraft repair shop is located at the Ostrava airport. The Zdopravy.cz newspaper is currently waiting for the company to comment on whether it has anything to do with the arrival of Wizz Air Airbuses.

Ostrava is not the only airport where the low-cost carrier parks its planes until the engine is replaced. A large part of them is to head to Bydgoszcz in Poland. The website informed about it Rynek-lotniczy.placcording to which long-term grounding of aircraft at smaller airports is cheaper for the airline.

Ostrava Airport already has a lot of experience with parking a large number of aircraft for a longer period of time, from the period of the pandemic. At the time, dozens of machines from various airlines were parked at Mošnov. Maintenance related to grounding was provided by Ostrava aircraft repair shops.
