Aircraft of the airline Wizz Air took off from Vienna Airport for the first time on Friday. Flights to Dortmund and Lisbon took place under stricter conditions.
The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is on Friday for the first time during the Corona crisis started again from Vienna. Two connections – W6 2841 to Dortmund in the morning and W6 2843 to Lisbon in the afternoon – were ultimately served. The airline said the capacity utilization of the aircraft exceeded expectations.

It was not announced how many passengers were on board the Airbus 320 in the Ruhrpott metropolis or the capital of Portugal. In the afternoon, Wizz Air opened six check-in counters at Vienna Airport, which in the meantime also formed a queue. A few dozen passengers were seen. The Hungarian airline also had a return flight to Sofia 20 minutes before the Lisbon flight (W6 4342).

Increased hygiene measures at Wizz Air
The travelers to the Portuguese capital included a student from Austria. She said she was “panicked” on March 18 at the beginning of the corona crisis and was now returning to her university. She had already booked the flight in early April. A young Portuguese told APA that he was working in Vienna but now wanted to visit his sick father.

With (today) May 1st, Wizz Air announced increased hygiene measures. While the HEPA filters in the airline’s machines would filter out 99.7 percent of the viruses and bacteria from the air in the cabin, both the crew and the passengers were called upon to “use masks” throughout the flight to wear”. The cabin crew will hand out disinfectant wipes to each passenger. The absence of the on-board magazine and the promotion of contactless payment when buying on board are “measures to minimize physical contact”. And last but not least: “On flights where occupancy allows, the crew will take the seat spacing of the passengers into account.”

“Gradually more and more passengers”
“As we gradually welcome more and more passengers on our flights and start our operations up again, the protective measures we implement will ensure the best possible hygienic conditions,” said Jozsef Varadi, CEO of Wizz Air, in another press release. The airline has also released a new video on the steps it took in Covid-19 times.

Vienna Airport once again pointed out on Friday that there are currently only a few scheduled connections. All remaining aviation operations are carried out in compliance with the applicable entry and health regulations of the authorities. At the airport, protective masks are required in the terminal.
